In the presence of numerous police, Crime Stoppers and community representatives Totalline unveiled a brand-new 53 ft. trailer which will raise awareness for transportation-related crime such as cargo theft, transportation of contraband or national security concerns costing the trucking industry billions of dollars annually. The entire campaign is also featured on other corporate material such as calendars and shipping labels.

Uwe Petroschke, President & C.E.O. Totalline Transport: “Transportation-related crime is a fundamental problem that we can only deal with by working together, and that is what this particular campaign is about. Over the course of the next 12 months, Totalline will launch this initiative as a program of awareness through effective visuals such as our custom-designed trailer, specifically developed for this program, or the Crime Stoppers phone number on the back doors of all of our trailers. With the new Crime Stoppers shipping labels we are extending the campaign to all the shippers and companies we are dealing with.“

Pat Gillie, President of the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers: “It is my pleasure to be here today to recognize and acknowledge Totalline Transport for their innovative initiative in partnering with Crime Stoppers. Over 2.6 billion dollars worth of stolen property has been recovered as a result of citizens seeing something, knowing something and calling Crime Stoppers. About 50% of that figure is attributed to the province of Ontario, and launching this partnership here, where all of the heavy truck transport begins, is a great accomplishment. “

Rob Ruiters, RCMP National Criminal Interdiction Coordinator: “There are more trucks on the road today than yesterday and there will be even more tomorrow. More trucks leave the industry vulnerable to national security concerns and criminal groups, and due to the volume of truck traffic, the law enforcement agencies do not have the resources to handle it alone. We need the assistance of the trucking industry to be our eyes and ears on the highways and to support law enforcement. By working together, we can reduce the risks for the trucking industry and make the transportation system more secure.”

Trucking Statistics according to the Ontario Trucking Association and the Canadian Trucking Alliance:

The trucking industry generated an estimated $67 billion in revenues in 2005.

Heavy truck activity across the Canada–U.S. border counted for more than 12 million two-way trips in 2006 – one every 2.5 seconds.

More than 70% by value of all Canada’s trade with the United States is shipped by truck.

The trucking industry as a whole employes more than 350,000 people in Canada.

Truck driver was the most frequently listed occupation for males in the last census.
